Packing Column is a type of tower equipment. Fill the tower with appropriate height of packing to increase the contact surface between the two fluids. For example, when applied to gas absorption, the liquid enters from the upper part of the tower through a distributor and descends along the surface of the packing. The gas flows upstream through the filling pores at the bottom of the tower and interacts closely with the liquid. The structure is relatively simple and easy to maintain. Widely used in gas absorption, distillation, extraction and other operations.
◆ Packing layer: provides a place for gas-liquid contact.
◆ Liquid distributor: evenly distribute the liquid to avoid channeling.
◆ Liquid redistributor: Avoid wall flow phenomenon.
◆ Support plate: Support the packing layer to evenly distribute the gas.
◆ Defoamer: prevents liquid from being carried at the gas outlet at the top of the tower.
 
Gas is sent from the bottom of the tower and distributed through a gas distribution device (small diameter towers generally do not have gas distribution devices). It then flows continuously in reverse flow with the liquid through the gaps in the packing layer. On the surface of the packing, the gas-liquid phase is in close contact for mass transfer.
 
The packed tower belongs to continuous contact gas-liquid mass transfer equipment, and the two-phase composition changes continuously along the tower height. Under normal operating conditions, the gas phase is the continuous phase and the liquid phase is the dispersed phase.
