Source: | Release Time:2019-12-30
Today, China is the world's largest producer and consumer of chemical products, with a total output value ranking first globally. However, the majority of people do not truly understand the chemical industry. Whenever the term "chemical industry" is mentioned, it is often associated with pollution, toxicity, and danger, leading many to develop a fear of chemicals and avoid them at all costs.
It is undeniable that some non-compliant chemical enterprises indeed cause pollution, explosions, and even casualties. Moreover, after media coverage, these issues are amplified and extended, leading people to lose the ability to think amid a flood of information about chemical pollution, explosions, and accidents. Consequently, a natural fear of chemicals arises.
However, the reality is that the vast majority of chemical enterprises are safe and serve the people and society.
Plastics, rubber, paints, coatings, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food additives, clothing... Chemical products are ubiquitous in our daily lives. The chemical industry provides us with a wide array of products and services, serving as a pillar of the national economy. A healthy and thriving chemical industry holds profound significance for both the national economy and the well-being of the people.
You may not know that the chemical industry is a pillar of the national economy.
In fact, the chemical industry is not only a pillar of China's economy but also a global one. From the perspective of global chemical sales or GDP (Gross Domestic Product), it accounts for 7% of the world's GDP. Since the chemical industry produces fundamental raw materials, it has a significant driving effect on other industries. A study conducted abroad has shown that for every dollar of chemical products produced, it generates $4.2 worth of downstream end products.
What is the situation in our country? In fact, our chemical industry is also one of the pillar industries of our nation. The chemical industry in China has achieved sales revenue exceeding 12 trillion RMB, and this figure only accounts for enterprises above a certain scale. There are over 27,000 large-scale chemical enterprises in China, and this count does not even include small and medium-sized enterprises. Their combined sales have already surpassed 12 trillion RMB.
China is the world's largest producer of chemical products, with its annual growth rate in the chemical industry accounting for over half of the global total in recent years. By total output value, China's chemical sector contributes nearly 40% to the global chemical industry, making it a massive sector. Many claim to reject chemicals, but is that truly possible? No, it cannot be avoided. Because chemical products are fundamental raw materials, indispensable in our daily lives—clothing, food, housing, and transportation all rely on them.
